C.A. Buxton, 68, Dies Suddenly At Spartansburg

Well Known Merchant Succumbs to Heart Attack After Brief Illness

Clark Allen Buxton, aged 68 years, and well known merchant in Spartansburg for the past 28 years, died suddenly at his home in the borough at 12:30 pm yesterday, following illness of only a few hours. While Mr Buxton had not been in the best of health for some time, he was about as usual yesterday morning and was at his store in the early forenoon. He complained of illness and returned to his home. He failed rapidly and the attending physician said heart trouble was the cause. Mr Buxton operated a general grocery store for many years, which later was taken over by the Quality Cash Stores with Mr Buxton as the manager. Mr Buxton spent most of his life in the Spartansburg community, where he had a wide acquaintance. He was a member of the borough council and the fire department. He leaves his wife, Mrs Catherine Buxton, and one son, Paul Buxton of Corry, by a former marriage. There are two brothers, T D Buxton of Minneapolis, Minn, and T W Buxton of Amboy, Ill, and one nephew, Benjamin J Buxton of Clymer, NY. The body is at the Torrey funeral home in Spartansburg, where friends may call and where services will be conducted at 2:30 pm Friday, with Rev C A Fuller of Centerville officiating, and interment will be in Rose Hill cemetery.
