  Calista's parents moved from Madison County, New York, to Erie County, Pennsylvania, after the Civil War, probably about the same time as Cheney and Calista, and settled a short distance away from them. Both she and Cheney were surrounded by family in their newly chosen home. With both sets of parents nearby, it is hard to know exactly where her last four children were born--at their home in the Town of French Creek, Chautauqua, New York; at Calista's parents' home in Wayne Township, Erie, Pennsylvania; or at Cheney's parents' home in Amity Township, Erie, Pennsylvania. After Cheney moved his family into Wattsburg, one can imagine the frequent sound of shouting, laughter and loudly slamming doors at the Bisbee household on Church Street. With seven children and, later, a widowed son, a daughter and son-in-law, and several grandchildren living at various times in her home, Calista would have been busy canning, cooking and cleaning. Like many women of her day, her social life was centered around her kitchen and on her family. Even after getting married and moving away, her children and grandchildren returned often for visits, the details of which were sometimes reported in the local newspaper. Their home still stands on Church Street and looks much as it did in photographs taken in the early 20th century. The Bisbees were probably members of the M. E. Church in Wattsburg, just a few blocks away. Calista's children attended school less than two blocks from home, and it was barely farther than that to the center of the village with its butcher shops and dry goods stores. A local creamery provided butter and cheese. The Bisbees owned a large double lot with house and barn, where Cheney maintained a vegetable garden, probably raised a few chickens, and kept a milk cow or two. Calista was widowed in 1917, and soon fell into poor health. She died in the spring of 1923, at home, of chronic bronchitis, a month short of her 86th birthday. Her funeral was conducted from the M. E. Church and she was buried next to her husband in Wattsburg Cemetery.
