  Adelbert M. Bisbee said he was born in a log cabin. There is no doubt he was born on State Line Road near Wattsburg, Pennsylvania. His parents owned property on the New York side, while his grandparents had a home and farm across the road on the Pennsylvania side. According to census records and newspaper clippings, his parents called him "Della" as a baby. Throughout his life, he answered to "Dell" or D. M. Bisbee. Dell was a mill worker, carpenter, cabinet maker and auctioneer, who did a bit of horse trading and farming on the side. He stood 5'-7" tall, weighed 170 lbs, had dark hair and blue-green eyes. Dell's first wife, Mattie Lockwood, died in childbirth along with their second child in 1899. In 1900, Dell, then thirty-two years old, and his infant daughter, Marjorie, were living in his parents' home on Church Street in the village of Wattsburg. A few years later, Dell was smitten by a recent divorcee, Ethel Hatch Carroll, and they married at Jamestown, New York, on Independence Day, 1906. They set up housekeeping in Union City in a house that Dell built on Crooked (now Market) Street. Their first child was born two years later and the following appeared in the Union City Times, 15 June, 1908: "AUCTIONEER BISBEE IS PROUD OF HIS SON. A son was born to Mr. & Mrs. D. M. Bisbee yesterday morning, and the popular auctioneer is the happiest man in town. The youngster weighed nine pounds and has been named Clair Arnold Bisbee. Parties in need of an auctioneer will be accommodated free of charge until dear papa's enthusiasm subsides, and which from present appearances will continue for some time." Dell was active in the Methodist Church and he worked in sawmills most of his life. He lost several fingers on his left hand as the result of a mill accident. He was at Caflish Lumber Company in Union City for many years, retiring from there in 1943. When he was eighty, he enjoyed listening to the radio from a big wooden rocking chair in the "front room" next to the cast iron stove. Dell was a kind man who often found an extra penny for his grandchildren to buy candy at the little corner grocery store. (Medical):Had arterio-sclerosis 5 years
