The Express is pleased to present a cut of Red Oak's new mayor, Mr. H. T. Thomas, who is undoubtedly well known to the most of our readers. Mr. Thomas is one of Red Oak's energetic young business men. Like many of Montgomery county's first class citizens, he was born in the old country and came to America in the bloom of youth to live and grow up to be a staunch, full-fledged American citizen. Mr. Thomas was born in Wrexham, North Wales, February 6, 1862, the son of a marble dealer. At the age of 11 years he came to America with his parents and located in Chicago. Here he lived until about 18 years of age. He was one of the lively, athletic boys during his day and was for a time, a member of the famous White Sox baseball team of Chicago.
While yet lacking two or three years of being of age, Mr. Thomas came to Macedonia, IA., and went into the merchantile business. He was also assistant postmaster at this place for some time. Five or six years sufficed him as a resident of Macedonia, and he removed to Council Bluffs, where he remained about eighteen months and came to Red Oak to accept employment with M. E. Fisher. He was for fourteen years a traveling salesman for the M. E. Fisher Grocery Co., and resigned this place to become a partner of Mr. Boileau in the furniture business....
