- Probably the son of Isaac Bisbee.... and Probably an adopted son, as there are no birth
records found.
His earlier years were spent in Cattaraugus County, New York, then moved to Maine. According to his son, William had a brother named Arza.
William Bisbee was an expert accountant and became chief clerk of Dexter Ballou's manufacturing establishment where he remained until 1840. Following this he entered a mercantile business and in 1842 formed a partnership with his brother-in-law, Latimer W. Ballou, continuing until 1850. Three years following the death of his wife he moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and owned a farm at Waterford, NJ. He was employed in a Philadelphia bank in 1888.
